Legal · Privacy
Your relationship is personal. Your data should be too.
Privacy Policy · Last updated August 21, 2026
Information we collect
- Display name and nickname that you enter.
- Your avatar selection or custom photo.
- An opaque Apple user identifier from Sign in with Apple. Tally does not use or store your Apple ID password or Sign in with Apple email address.
- Tally points, settlements, nudge messages, streak data, and other relationship content you create in the app.
How your data is stored
- Personal profile data is stored in your private iCloud database, accessible only to you.
- Partnership data—including tallies, settlements, and nudges—is stored in a shared CloudKit database accessible to you and your paired partner.
- Avatar images are stored in CloudKit and may be cached locally on your device.
- Preferences such as onboarding state and notification settings are stored locally on your device.
- An encrypted Sign in with Apple refresh token and a pseudonymous identifier are stored by our authentication service solely to manage the sign-in lifecycle and revoke authorization when you delete your account.
How we use your information
We use your information only to provide Tally’s core functionality: creating your profile, pairing you with your partner, syncing shared relationship activity, delivering requested notifications, managing subscriptions, securing sign-in, and completing account deletion.
Service providers
We rely on the following providers to operate Tally:
- Apple CloudKit for data storage and synchronization.
- Sign in with Apple for authentication.
- The App Store and StoreKit for subscriptions.
- Apple Push Notification Service for real-time updates.
- Railway for authentication-service hosting and encrypted Sign in with Apple credential storage used for token revocation.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data. We disclose only the minimum data needed to our infrastructure providers to operate Tally. Your paired partner can see shared partnership data such as tallies, settlements, and nudge messages, but cannot see your private profile database.
Security
Tally uses Apple’s platform security, HTTPS in transit, private and shared CloudKit databases, and application-level encryption for stored Sign in with Apple refresh tokens. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely risk-free, but we limit the information our authentication service receives and retain only what is necessary for its purpose.
Your choices and account deletion
- Unpair to end active data sharing with your partner. Existing relationship history is preserved while the partnership is severed.
- Sign out to clear local caches and session data from your device.
- Use Delete Account inside Tally to remove your Tally data from CloudKit and revoke Tally’s Sign in with Apple authorization.
- After successful revocation, the encrypted credential is removed from the live authentication database. It may remain temporarily in encrypted, access-controlled backups until routine backup expiry.
- Email support@tallycouples.app for privacy or data requests.
Children’s privacy
Tally is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Tally changes. We will update the date at the top of this page when we do. Your continued use of Tally after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
